2009 WAIST Champions!

Most of the volunteers in Mauritania (a little over 100) headed down to Dakar on February 13th to attend WAIST – an annual softball tournament. We had three teams representing PCRIM – Pirates (team A – the serious team), Buccaneers (team B), and Scallywags (team C). Then we had our supporters – the Poopdeck Seamen, which I was a part of. The games were from the 14th to the 16th, with the 16th being the championship game. We played the Senegalese team that we lost to last year in the championship game; it was quite intense. Although I did not play, I had a blast cheering on our teams!
I spent most of my time at the American club or Club Atlantique watching the games. So I didn’t get a chance to go explore Dakar; I’ll save that for next time. Anyways, I did a homestay (along with Morgan, Amanda and Yates) with a Camerounian family who is friend with Morgan. They were so great! They made us really good homemade food. =)
Besides watching the games, I went out every night. It was so nice to have a “social life” for a few days. It was also really fun to hangout with the other volunteers. Lets just say we’re one crazy group. =)
Anyways, there’s suppose to be a documentary about the pirates’ journey to WAIST. If I get my hands on a video I’ll post it up. In the mean time enjoy the pictures!
