International Women’s Day

We had 2 days notice to prepare for the Wali (governor) and other local officials’ visit on Sunday. The visit was a part of several visits to different organizations, etc… for International Women’s Day. It was a great opportunity for the GMC since the officials hardly ever come to the center. I had the two of the lycée girls speak about the discussion we had on Friday regarding women, International Women’s Day, and education. The collège girls did two skits that I wrote in French and English on the importance of girl’s education. I also had four girls show how to use computers. Aminetou (who’s simply amazing) spoke for a few minutes. All of this was between 15-20 minutes. Given the amount time that we had to prepare for this visit – it went really well.

{just finished my mini-welcome speech}

Hi Sia –
This is Brandon’s mom. Looks like you two have been busy. You should be proud of what you are doing! Was wondering if you still need money for computers – or have you made your goal yet? We’d like to donate if you still need.
Also, haven’t heard from Brandon in a while, and I know he doesn’t have his cell yet. And not sure if he’s checking his email. MEN! haha! Can you have him reply to my email? Tell him it’s about his flight home (or actually his return flight.)
Thanks so much!
